"The Warmth" - Incubus

Every once in awhile you find a song which sticks with you from the first time you've heard it. The warmth by Incubus is not only a personal favourite but just a down right great tune. It's mix of great rhythm and a cool guitar effect add layers to a composition which seems driven by no one instrument but all together make one sweet track! Brandon Boyd has always had the knack for great lyrics and again doesn't disappoint in this track from the bands album Make Yourself. I hope you enjoy this tune as much as I have!

Mr. T

"Bring Me Sunshine" - Willie Nelson

G-Man

"Surprise, Surprise" - Brett Dennan

I don't know much about this chap. This song came on one of those music streaming sites during a chill session and it was that sort of moment that nothing else mattered except getting the name of the song and artist. Love the bouncy cadence of this track and suped-up singer/songwriter acoustic style.
Would love to hear more from Brett Dennan. Wouldn't you?

January 23, 2015

This week we tip our hats to musical acts that originate right back where we're from. Rob, Mr. T and the G-Man all currently hail from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The nation's capital. So the songs of the day we've selected today are all by acts who also hail from Ottawa. Enjoy!

"Lemons" - Amos The Transparent

With so many great local bands this weeks choice was tough to say the least. Lemons is one of the first tunes which caught my attention from Amos. A smooth melodic tune rich with a catchy chorus this song makes for some great listening. Although I'm not a huge music video fan, I did enjoy the the cartoon idea which seemed to only help compliment an already great song! Check out "Greater than Consequence", "Sure as the Weather", "Convince the Mayor", or "After all that, It's come to this".

Mr. T

"Signs" - Five Man Electrical Band

G-Man

"Taste Buds" -  The Goodluck Assembly

I've met people and known people from many walks of life. I'm proud to say I don't discriminate when it comes to my group of friends. You never know who you'll meet or who you won't if you keep tight restrictions on those you choose to fraternize with. Through one of my bartender friends I heard of this band from Ottawa called the Goodluck Assembly. I was lucky enough to attend their album release party in 2013 at Cafe Deckuf. "Stay With Me" might have gotten more airplay across Canada, but "Taste Buds" will always be my favourite.

"F.M" - Steely Dan

G-Man

"Jane Says" - Jane's Addiction

Although it was released in the early 90's, maybe late 80's "Jane Says" is a classic rock song in my mind. Ahead of their time and their greatness not long for this world, Jane's Addiction were the Rock Star lifestyle personified. A catchy simple guitar riff and localized Californ-IA style lyrics, "Jane Says" will be on my all time playlist as long as I have one.

"Great Expectations" - The Gaslight Anthem

If you're one of those people lamenting about the good old days of music and feel the art of making an important rock album are long gone, then i'd like to introduce you to The Gaslight Anthem and their near perfect album The '59 Sound. The Gaslight Anthem are a group from New Jersey who grew up listening to Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen and Social Distortion. Their influences are clearly on display through the various storytelling tracks and good old fashioned rock tunes about chicks and cars. The first track on the album "Great Expectations" grips you and the rest refuses to let go until you've realized that the CD has been on a loop for 3 hours. Check the album out and don't say I never do anything for ya.
