Seven Nine Eleven

Rob

Dave Matthews Band - "Ants Marching"

Mr. T

Dave Clark Five - "Catch Us If You Can"

G-Man

The Distillers - "I Am A Revenant"

As a punk fan I found myself going through ebbs and flows of the certain style of punk i'd be drawn towards. More often than not, it's that raw but not basement-produced, aggressive but not incomprehensible, and lightning quick but not under 2 minutes long kind of punk that produced a much required itch to be scratched. "I Am A Revenant" by The Distillers checks all those boxes in a way my words cannot elucidate.

Doug

Warren G - "Party We Will Throw Now" feat. Nate Dogg & The Game

Dano

Clutch - "The Incomparable Mr. Flannery"

Jonny HP

Jack Marks - "Borrow It Gladly Away"

Mike D

Taylor Swift - "Betty"

J.B.

Dope Lemon - "Uptown Folks"

An Aussie brother and sister duo that have a throw back sound. To me it's a perfect clash of California acid rock (see "Honey Bones" their first single) with a story to tell kind of feel. Enjoy on your Summer road trip or with some patio beers

The Common Warm

Rob

Breaking Benjamin - "Diary Of Jane"

Mr. T

Tim Montana - "Hillbilly Rich"

Can't remember where I found this one, but it's something else

G-Man

Sublime - "Boss DJ"

Sublime is both quintessentially 90's and timeless. They are unique, so much so that really no band sounded like them at the time and non since. Blending a plethora of genres and their demographics spanned multiple cultures. Everyone likes at least one Sublime song, and Sublime fans all have different favourites. "Boss DJ" has been in my head all day, it puts my baby to sleep too

Doug

Nouela - "Black Hole Sun"

Dano

Led Zeppelin - "Trampled Under Foot"

Jonny HP

Limp Bizkit - "Rollin'"

Mike D

Sturgill Simpson - "The Dead Don't Die"

J.B.

Neil Young - "Down By The River"

Happy Friday. Hoping to pull off the longest good vibes Song Of The Day. As usual Neil Young's guitar work makes this entire song incredible and i'm betting it will reverberate with you all day long

Death Day Cake

We're back up to six members! Please welcome newest Song Of The Day Friday contributor J.B.!!
Always eager to hear what new songs and vibes different people bring to the list! Seems like he has a lot to say as well! Welcome J.B.!!

Rob

Papa Roach - "Blood Brothers"

Mr. T

Reagan James - "Better Than This"

G-Man

T-Rex - "20th Century Boy"

I've always been interested in what bands and artists inspire other bands and artists. T-Rex is a name that has popped up quite a few times, and they've even been name dropped in some famous songs like The Who's "You Better You Bet" and Mott The Hoople's "All The Young Dudes". Never really understood the hype, I mean "Bang a Gong" was alright I guess. Then I heard the entirety of Electric Warrior. And I stopped wondering.

Doug

Spirit Of The West - "Not Just A Train"

Dano

Spirit Of The West - "The Crawl"

Jonny HP

TBD

Mike D

Halsey - "Castle"

J.B.

Shakey Graves - "Doe, Jane"

Definitely and definitively a one man band. Shakey Graves gives that sort of Blue Grass feel some new age muster to a sound that keeps me searching for another gem of his. There's a lot of story telling behind his lyrics and I like this jam the most for it. Happy Friday

Light Of The Mourning

Rob

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - "Pump It Up"

Mr. T

Joe Walsh - "Life Of Illusion"

G-Man

Kim Mitchell - "Alana Loves Me"

Recently had a CanCon only Canada Day show on The Void Radio and obviously, had a lot of requests for Mr. Kim Mitchell. I've never really dove too deeply into his songbook, but damn, he's got some fantastic tunes. Definitely have a new found appreciation for the ol' Kimosabe.

Doug

Rhys Lewis - "No Right To Love You"

Dano

Hot Hot Heat - "Talk To Me Dance With Me"

Jonny HP

Beverly Hills Cop Theme

Mike D

Wheatus - "Teenage Dirtbag"

Special Guest Pick!

J.B

Oliver Tree - "Let Me Down"

After accidentally stumbling on this track recently, I needed more of the sound. Oliver Tree hasn't been on most people's radar since his first album in 2013 but has gained some pretty decent accolades from the likes of Thom Yorke and Skrillex. I think whats grabbed my attention on this track is the main guitar line that's eerily similar to the Pixie's 'Where is My Mind' and Tree's despondent voice. Either way this tune won't disappoint those of you looking for an indie Summer sound

Thursday 2 July 2020

Pure Blue Looking Clear

Rob

Tantric - "Breakdown"

Mr. T

The Traveling Wilburys - "Dirty World"

G-Man

Marilyn Manson - "The Nobodies"

Don't right know why this song has been rolling in my mind lately. Written about the culprits of the Columbine shooting in 1999. Just a poignant, isolated track.

Doug

The Tragically Hip - "Wheat Kings"

Dano

Interpol - "The Heinrich Maneuver"

Jonny HP

A Tribe Called Red - "Sila" feat. Tanya Tagaq

Mike D

The Script - "Hall Of Fame"
