We all have bands that we can't stand. Sometimes though that band that we claim to hate releases a song that starts to grow on you and heaven-forbid you actually begin to like it. You can't say that you hate a band and then pick like 3 songs you like by them...because let's face it, that means you kinda like them. That band is brutal...but they have one song that is pretty good. That's this week's theme. Brought to you by the G-Man. Great Songs by an Artist That You Otherwise Can't Stand.

Rob

1a) Angels & Airwaves - "The Adventure"

1b) Hedley - "Villain"

Mr. T

U2 - "Instant Karma"

G-Man

Motley Crue - "Dr. Feelgood"

Fucking hair metal...glam rock...wuss rock whatever you wanna call it, is the bane of my existence. The main problem I have with the genre is the lack of substance. I get that sometimes people want to put on music just to party to. I get it. But when a group makes their living and continues well into their twilight years still singing about chicks and drinkin', and they spend more time on their stage show and make up than their songs, that turns me right off the group. Motley Crue fits that description like a glove. "Dr. Feelgood" is different though, it has a different feel. It's like the dumb jock in class hands in a well written and smartly crafted essay. You wanna hear it again because you wanna make sure you heard it right the first time. The guitars have that extra crunch, the lyrics have a slight tinge of social awareness to them. The song doesn't suck...despite how much the rest of the Crue's music does.

Bonus!!

Kid Rock - "Only God Knows Why"

Kid Rock has always walked a narrow edge for me. For the same reasons as I mentioned above I was put off to most of his music. "Bawitdaba" I sorta liked but it's touch and go. After a few albums of the drunken-redneck-cowboy-gangsta schtick he switched to Country and I thankfully didn't have to be subjected to anymore of his greasy antics. Buried amongst the Southern whiskey rap tracks of his first album is a slow, insightful song called "Only God Knows Why", sure it features an offensive amount of auto-tune, but if he released more music like this, I may have given the Kid another try.

Doug

Will I. Am & Nicki Minaj - "Check It Out"

*note from G-Man: Mr. T's head is about to explode

This week's theme brought to you by Doug!! Pretty straight forward, TV show theme songs! Also accepted were established songs that were used by shows as their opening themes!!

Rob

3 Picks!!

1a) The Refreshments - "Yahoos & Triangles" (King Of The Hill Theme)

1b) Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff - "Fresh Prince Of Bel Air Theme"

1c) Dead Prez - "Hip Hop" (Chappelle's Show)

Mr. T

Gary Portnoy - "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" (Cheers Theme)

*Bonus* Quincy Jones - "The Streetbeater" (Sanford & Son Theme)

Blondie

The Rembrandts - "I'll Be There For You" (Friends Theme)

G-Man

Terry Bush - "Maybe Tomorrow" (Littlest Hobo Theme)

It was tough for me to just pick one song for this week's theme...so I picked 3! HAHA. The theme for a Canadian classic The Littlest Hobo was done by Terry Bush. It's got a great vintage, timeless feel. Almost feels like it should have been a bigger radio hit. I hear recently in Europe that's just what happened

Steve Carlisle - "WKRP In Cincinatti"

Another meaningful one to all of us in the Broadcasting world. Not sure who Steve Carlisle is, but if this wasn't written for a TV show i'm sure we'd still be listening to it to this day

Jane's Addiction - "Superhero" (Entourage Theme)

Went with a newer one for my final pick. Just a great song and fits the themes of the show to a T.

Doug

Boots Randolph - "Yakety Sax" (Benny Hill Show Theme)

Hockey Night In Canada Theme

Today's theme is brought to you by Mr. T!! Though the time of B-Sides has passed, us music lovers can still look back fondly on those lesser known gems that were found on the opposite sides of singles and on the lesser played sides of LPs. Though now in modern times the term "b-side" can be applied to any song that was deleted off a full-length album or any rare, one-off track that are typically only known by true fans of the band. Epic B-Sides!! Kick it off Robo...

Rob

The Smashing Pumpkins - "The End Is The Beginning Is The End"

Mr. T

Fleetwood Mac - "The Chain"

G-Man

Pearl Jam - "Leatherman"

Pearl Jam are one of those bands that is always making, recording and releasing music. New songs are popping up during their live shows constantly, in fact they have so many damn b-sides and rare tracks that this one didn't even make their 2003 b-side double album release Lost Dogs. "Leatherman" was a track recorded during the Yield sessions but didn't make the final cut. A favourite of Eddie Vedder though, it was included as a b-side for the album's first single "Given To Fly"

Led Zeppelin - "Hey, Hey What Can I Do"

I'm doing two 'cuz fuck it. When I found out this killer Zeppelin track was a b-side I shit myself. I've always been drawn to 1971's Led Zeppelin III and can't understand why "Hey, Hey What Can I Do" was featured as a b-side to "The Immigrant Song" and included on the LP. Ah, well...what can ya do.

Doug

Cake - "Mahna, Mahna"

Hurricane

Righteous Brothers - "Unchained Melody"

The Beatles - "I Am The Walrus"

Everclear - "I Will Follow You Into The Dark"
