Rob Dallas Green - "Comin' Home" Note from G-Man: Appreciate the sentiment...i am coming home
Mr. T Neil Young - "Old Man" Note from G-Man: Morning Show memories...
G-Man Brand New - "Degausser"
A near indescribable song from a very unique band. The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me is Brand New's 2006 masterpiece, a phenomenal effort from a band I once wrote off as a pop-punk Blink 182 clone. They really let the music speak for itself on this one, the album itself barely gives any clues as the liner notes are almost non-existent. This song just hits me like ten cars on the highway, then leaves me to die.
Doug Avicii - "Broken Arrows" Note from G-Man: Cool Song!
Some great picks this week! This is what Song Of The Day Fridays is all about..
Rob Against Me! - "Walking Is Still Honest"
Mr. T Van Morrison - "Dweller On The Threshold"
Here is a song I found hidden deep on a b side in my library. Just an overall excellent tune about a guy who can see a dream that hasent actually happened. Something I can certainly relate too. Have a dream so clear it's almost as if you've lived it. Enjoy!
G-Man Dredg - "Sang Real"
This is one of those mysterious tracks from my past. Sometime ago I decided it needed to be on my playlist but can't exactly recall where I first heard it or who introduced it to me. It's been a Subway Soundtrack song for sure and I even recently picked up the album it is from Catch Without Arms. Became an instant favourite.
Mr. T Improv-A-Gangsta - "Songs Of The Bomb Disposal Unit"
This week I'm going off the paved road a bit. Yes still a song technically but not a "band" for say, I choose the video because of how it impressed me. 2 guys, a theme and a piano man. No time to sit down and write a song. All made up on the fly, whatever comes into their heads they run with. Very impressive if you ask me. Be sure to check out some of their other "hits" as well
G-Man Metallica - "Orion"
I get asked often what my favourite Metallica song is. I don't have a go to song everytime, usually my answer is whatever Metallica song is stuck in my head that week. The one that gets brought back up time and time again though is "Orion", the masterpiece instrumental track off of 1986's Master Of Puppets. This song kicks so much ass. If you haven't heard too many Metallica songs make this one a priority and i'll have a handful more for you to hear after this one blows you away
Rob G-Man: "Well, look who shows up..." Our Lady Peace - "Starseed"
Mr. T
This week I dedicate my picks the the late Glenn Frey. We all have a band or artist that, impact our lives through their music and lyrics and Glenn, along with The Eagles are mine. In their History of The Eagles dvd, Glenn said, what's was cool is that people did things to The Eagles music, they took it with them. This is true in my life. Whether on a road trip to the ski hill or a druken campfire singalong, all my favorite memories with my friends there has been an Eagles song in the background. I was fourtnate enough to go see The Eagles a few years ago now when they came to Ottawa, and what really stood out to me was although Glenn was a front man, there was always room at the front of the stage for others. (Joe Walsh). Although I never met the man, I will greatly miss Glenn and his contributions to The Eagles and the world of music.
"THERE'S A HOLE IN THE WORLD TONIGHT"
The Eagles - "Take It To The Limit"
Glenn Frey - "You Belong To The City"
G-Man Against Me! - "Thrash Unreal"
Against Me! is one of my favourite bands. Always will be. Not only that but Laura Jane Grace has inspired me as a songwriter as well. The way she can fit words into the cadence of any song has always impressed me. Also how she can right a killer punk track like "Thrash Unreal" and then turn around and break your heart with a slow acoustic jam like "Cavalier Eternal" is a fantastic talent if you ask me. The 2 examples are below!
Goodbye to 2015! The Christmas songs are done and we're back on track here at SOTD Fridays! There is no definitive theme to today's list, but it seems some people got into the New Years mood anyway!
Rob Foo Fighters - "Next Year"
The Eagles - "Funky New Year"
Mr. T Neil Young - "Rockin' In The Free World"
G-Man The Zombies - "This Will Be Our Year"
This song is quickly climbing my charts of one of my all time faves! Great piece of musical ass right here!
