One of last week's write-ups gave the boys here at Song Of The Day Fridays an idea for a theme. Great songs that remind them of parties from their younger days. As always they are free to interperet that at their leisure and also as always Rob get's us under way...
Rob
Snoop Dogg - "Gin & Juice"
Mr. T
Billy Idol - "Mony, Mony"
Here's the story: Drunk at a high school party. "Mony, Mony" comes on and we all start singing the part, when my buddy Ryan starts screaming "Fuck a pony! Fuck a pony!" So drunk he goofed the lyrics and it stuck forever!
G-Man
Old Dirty Bastard - "Got Your Money"
They say High School is the best time of your life. Well i'd agree with that statement if I could stretch my OAC year over the whole experience. My graduating class (Class of 2000!) was a unique one, where that we all got along despite the different varying cliques. The last few months leading up to Graduation saw a new party every weekend. This song will always remind me of one of the cottage parties, probably early June. At the time it felt like I had 50 friends, there was no negativity. I think we all knew the significance of being the class of 2000 without dwelling on it too much. Just trying to hang on to a few wonderful, happy moments
Doug
Spirit Of The West - "Home For A Rest"
Dano
Tool - "Invincible"
Starts out Mastodon, turns into Counterparts Rush and ends in total Tool. Flawless. This is the smartest and most thought out album i have ever fucking heard
Yeah Valentine's Day just passed and love surrounded everyone for a day, but for some it's a day where all the happy couples shove their matrimony right in our face. We here at Song of the Day Fridays are bringing some ant-venom to your Valentine's hangover. Break Up songs and F U Songs! Rob Three Days Grace - "Human Race"
Mr. T REO Speedwagon - "Time For Me To Fly"
G-Man Damien Rice - "Rootless Tree"
Seems like I went a bit of a different direction than Rob and Mr. T. You might be surprised to see a mellow song slinger like Damien Rice on a list like this and I too was a bit surprised when this song came on when I bought his second album 9. But it's great and sometimes you just need to scream it at someone. NSFW
Eamon - "Fuck It (Don't Want You Back)"
A classic F U track. Maybe one the first self-made internet musicians. This one held the Guinness Record for most expletive deleteds in a #1 hit. Might still hold that honour.
Doug Toby Keith - "Big Blue Note"
Barenaked Ladies - "The Flag"
Dano Fever Ray - "Keep The Streets Empty For Me"
Fever Ray - "When I Grow Up"
Jonny HP Tool - "Swamp Song"
Honourable Mentions
The Greg Kihn Band - "The Break Up Song"
Huey Lewis & The News - "If This Is It"
Against Me! - "We're Breaking Up"
Roxette - "It Must Have Been Love"
Lily Allen - "Fuck You Very Much"
Alanis Morrisette - "You Oughta Know"
Amy Winehouse - "Back To Black"
Ben Folds Five - "Song For The Dumped"
