Positivism

Mr. T

The Verve Pipe - "The Freshman"

G-Man

The Distillers - "Drain The Blood"

Happy Rocktober y'all! I love that every now and then Punk Music rears it's vicious head and lurks back into the spotlight. Providing us listeners with a plethora of hard hitting songs by bands dripping with angst and attitude. The Distillers really gave the early 2000's resurgence a refreshing voice to get behind!

Doug

Me First & The Gimme Gimmes - "I Will Always Love You"

Dano

A-Ha - "Take On Me" feat. El Estepario Siberiano

Great song, but waaayyyy better with these drums

Jonny HP

Mr. T

Patoranking - "Abule"

G-Man

Slipknot - "Adderall"

The new Slipknot album has potential. Can't wait to pick it up. This is the lead off track and it may not be the sound that you were expecting to hear. Gotta respect a band that does things their own way. Slipknot has always been like that

Doug

Raekwon - "Guillotine (Swords)"

Dano

King Buffalo - "Ecliptic"

King Buffalo - "Burning"

That instrumental needs another with it.

Jonny HP

Brand New - "Jesus"

Rocktober Part 3: Icarus

Rob

Wide Mouth Mason - "My Old Self"

Mr. T

The Grateful Dead - "Truckin'"

G-Man

The Offspring - "Not The One"

Rocktober rages on. Thought about this album today and how goddamn good it is. It's a shame I don't own it. An easily fixable situation that shall reveal itself soon

Slipknot - "Dead Memories"

For now, this album is where Slipknot ends for me. I'm sure i'll come around and get into their new stuff. But their first for albums are absolutely perfect. Love them all. Just a definite reflection of a heavy metal lifespan.

Doug

The Tragically Hip - "Three Pistols"

Dano

Green Day - "Disappearing Boy"

Green Day - "Green Day"

Jonny HP

The Raconteurs - "Steady As She Goes"

Mr. T

Stars on 54  - "If You Could Read My Mind"

G-Man

Coheed & Cambria - "The Afterman"

I Know this one isn't the embodiment of Rocktober, but it always reminds me of Autumn. Released during a tumultuous time in my life, but it's a welcome track to remind me of where I came from. Coheed is consistently consistent

KoRn - "No Place To Hide"

Just jizzin' and fuckin it up wit some hoes and shit

Doug

Rocktober Part 1: Immolation

October is the best goddamned month on all of Earth. So in celebration all month long, we're picking nothing but the best goddamned songs ever recorded.

Rob

Metallica - "The Unforgiven II"

Mr. T

AC/DC - "Highway To Hell"

G-Man

PUP - "Reservoir"

This is a newish one to me. I knew of PUP, but didn't quite know how friggin good their self-titled debut was gonna be. Picked it up earlier this month. Bashers.

Metallica - "The Shortest Straw"

I like Rob's taste. Really I could've picked any song from Metallica....Rocktober baby...saw them live TWICE back in Rocktober '09. This song was in my head earlier....bang

Doug

The Tragically Hip - "New Orleans Is Sinking"

Dano

Clutch - "Mercury"

Rocktober Part 3

Let's try and finish Rocktober on a high note and who knows, maybe next month will be a November to Remember?

Rob

Blink 182 - "Don't Leave Me"

Huey Lewis & The News - "The Heart Of Rock n' Roll"

Do you like Huey Lewis & The News?

Mr. T

Dean Martin - "You're Nobody Until Somebody Loves You"

G-Man

Santana - "Put Your Lights On" feat. Everlast

Aeons ahead of it's time Santana put out a fantastic album in 1999 which saw his classic rock style guitar paired with then current artists effectively introducing 2 generations to a new style of music. It's a format still copied today. Santana has said that his favourite track on Supernatural was his duet with Everlast, and while I dig the Latin vibes of "Maria, Maria", i'm inclined to agree with Carlos. My old man does too.

Doug

TBD

Dano

Gorillaz - "Stylo"

Gorillaz - "Rhinestone Eyes"

Jonny HP

The Trews - "Tired Of Waiting"

For Gord

This was supposed to be Rocktober part 3. It's been a difficult month. There were no rules this week. We thank Gord and dedicate our picks to him in anyway we felt appropriate

Rob

The Tragically Hip - "Gift Shop"

The Tragically Hip - "Grace, Too"

Mr. T

The Eagles - "There's A Hole In The World Tonight"

Note from G-Man: No Youtube video for this. Are The Eagles stingy on their stuff being online? Here's a Vimeo link though...

https://vimeo.com/144432435

G-Man

The Flatliners - "Eulogy"

You will not be forgotten, you will be celebrated. RIP Gord.

Doug

Rocktober Part 2

Rob

Lagwagon - "May 16"

Mr. T

The Band - "Life Is A Carnival"

G-Man

Pantera - "Cowboys From Hell"

It's impossible for me to hear this song and not be whisked back to the Summer of 2006. My first car that was officially mine....Fixxxer. Black '95 Sunfire. Loved rippin' around town in that thing despite how much of a bucket of bolts it was. It was mine. Paid straight cash. It had an updated soundsystem with one of those late 90's early 2000's CD players that lit up blue and orange. Naturally I had to make a mix CD to commemorate my first no-fucks-given-mobile....Fixxxer Mixxx!! Track one? Pantera and The Cowboys From Hell

Doug

Ed Sheeren - "Perfect"

Dano

Shakey Graves - "Late July"

Jonny HP

Paul Simon - "You Can Call Me Al"

Happy Birthday to Jonny HP! From all of us at Song Of The Day Fridays!

October 28, 2016

Halloween is this Monday, so here at SOTD Fridays we're showcasing some of our favourite spooky songs, Halloween themed or even favourite costumed bands! Let's kick 'er off!!

Robenstein

Dave Matthews Band - "Halloween"

Tracy Jordan - "Werewolf Bar Mitzah"

Mr. Trick or Treat

Blue Oyster Cult - "(Don't Fear) The Reaper"

The Cramps - "Surfin' Dead"

The Edgar Winter Group - "Frankenstein"

Ghost-Man

Misfits - "Scream!"

Though I prefer the demo version of this song, the official video is kick ass! Made before all the recent zombie-apocalypse jerk-off fest was everywhere too. This song was written for the Scream soundtrack but not used

Cradle Of Filth - "Her Ghost In The Fog"

One of the best modern metal songs out there. The song is more about avenging a murdered lover than about ghosts n' stuff, but still creepy video, creepy scary vibe. Saw these guys live on Devil's Night with Gwar back in 2007. Great show

Dougula

Will Smith - "Nightmare On My Street"

Eminem - "Monster" feat. Rhianna

Dano-Lantern

Rob Zombie - "Mars Needs Women"

Holy Grail - "Exciter"

It's so hard to pick a favourite song from you favourite band, yeah? Metallica has many songs that have topped that chart for me over the years. "Hero Of The Day" is one that can always take me back to the first time I heard this album, my year of musical enlightenment. It will always hold a special place for me.

Doug

Norria. K - "Has To Be"

Dano

Ween - "Mister Richard Smoker"

Ween - "Bananas & Blows"

NEXT WEEK'S THEME: HALLOWEEN SONGS...
