The Low End Fat

On today's blog the boys look at songs where the Bass is the main instrument. The one steering the ship. The one driving the tune! A musical theme brought to us by our longtime member Mr. T! As always, Rob gets us started...

Rob

Nirvana - "Lounge Act"

Jamiroquai - "(Don't) Give Hate A Chance"

Mr. T

The Rolling Stones - "Emotional Rescue"

G-Man

Rancid - "Journey To The End Of East Bay"

I struggled with this one a bit. Landed on this Rancid tune, but even though it has a killer bass riff by the legendary Matt Friedman, wasn't sure if it really drove the song...

Jaco Pastorius - "Come On, Come Over"

Then I remembered about this beauty! Jaco is like the Hendrix to many bass players. A diety in the field. A virtuoso and a visionary. Taken too soon, like so many young legends

Doug

Paul McCartney & Wings - "Silly Love Songs"

Dano

Les Claypool & The Holy Mackarel - "The Awakening"

Feist - "Sea Lion Woman" (Chromeo Remix)

Jonny HP

Korn - "Dead Bodies Everywhere"

Mike D

Sixx AM - "Life Is Beautiful"

A Faint & Falling Soundtrack

Rob

The Fully Down - "Descent, Rebellion & All Around Hell Raising"

Mr. T

Toulouse - "C'est Toujours A Recommencer"

G-Man

Disturbed - "Stupify"

Went with a true "Song of the Day" this week. This one was in my head all morning for some reason and I was instantly reminded of my early College days when this came out. Circa 2000 maybe? Early 2001? Great times back then indeed.

Doug

Dua Lipa - "IDGAF"

Dano

Nirvana - "Sliver"

Nirvana - "Breed"

Jonny HP

AWOLnation - "I Am"

Rob

Nirvana - "Lithium"

Mr. T

Matt Andersen - "My Last Day"

G-Man

Coheed & Cambria - "Welcome Home"

One of my favourite bands. One thing I love about 'em is that they never stick to just one genre. Sometimes it's sweet sounds, sometimes acoustic, sometimes power chord driven rock. "Welcome Home" was the first single from their 3rd album, my personal fave. It's pure guitar squealing metal mayhem!!

Doug

The Counting Crows - "Rain King"

Dano

The Wailin' Jennys - "Deeper Well"

The Wailin' Jennys - "Bird Song"

Rob

Nirvana - "Pennyroyal Tea"

Mr. T

Styx - "The Best Of Times"

G-Man

Metallica - "Low Man's Lyric"

1997 was 20 years ago. Crazy to think of how time marches on so fast. That means Metallica's ReLoad turns 20 this year. Plenty of great songs of the album to pick from. The lesser known "Low Man's Lyric" was always a favourite of mine from the record. It features hurdy gurdy and violin. Rare that different musicians appear on a 'Tallica track. This song can really set a somber mood.

Doug

Flogging Molly - "What's Left Of The Flag"

Dano

Ween - "Buckingham Green"

Ween - "Waving My Dick In The Wind"
