As pure an honest as Against Me!'s songs normally are, this one is about as bareboned honest it gets. A b-side to one of their earliest singles, the turmoil singer/songwriter Laura Jane Grace dealt with most of her life is bubbling under the surface of this one. Completely stunned me the first time I heard it. Just an absolute banger.
Doug
Whitney Houston & Clean Bandit - "How Will I Know"
G-Man Cauterize - "Choke"
I remember this band back when they were known as T.O.E. Thought they had a ton of potential for a Hard Rock group from Oshawa, Ontario. Looks like they changed their name to Cauterize and broke up shortly after. At least they have this one fantastic album as their legacy. Tons of great tracks on it
Doug Whitney Houston - "How Will I Know" (Junior Vasquez Remix)
Dano Big Sugar - "Heart Refuse To Pound"
Jonny HP Badflower - "30"
Mike D Juice WRLD - "Wishing Well"
J.B. The Get Up Kids - "Mass Pike"
Everytime I hear The Get Up Kids or one of their many off shoot "Projects" it sends me to my 20s. While the band saw limited mainstream success in the early to mid 2000s I feel they missed the boat due to the scream-o/pop-punk saturating the airwaves at the time. But, after 2 decades they returned last year and released a new album and their sound has matured, it's still an unfettered pleaser. Enjoy and happy Friday kidz.
We haven't had a theme as a collective in some time...Mr. T had the idea to reveal some of our Guilty Pleasures when it comes to music. Stuff we normally would hesitate to admit that we like out loud, with our friends, for fear of ridicule. But behind closed doors we can't help but bop our heads and tap our toes to. Looks like some members shed their skin a little more than others, while some still threw up a regular weekly pick. Almost a mixed bag as usual. Rob....kick us off...
Rob Earth, Wind & Fire - "September"
So fucking catchy!!
Mr. T Cher - "Turn Back Time"
Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton - "Islands In The Stream"
G-Man Soul Decision - "Faded"
This is an older one. I've kept it close to my chest for sometime. They're kind of a boyband but kind of not. They play their own instruments...that counts for something yeah? Shit..
Pitbull - "Timber" Feat. Ke$ha
Do I have to put the dolla sign in Kesha's name? I do. Ok then.
Doug The Highwaymen - "Highwayman"
Sorry I forgot the theme! I will find something else
Whitney Houston - "I'm Every Woman"
Dano Rihanna - "Umbrella" Travis Barker Remix
Fun. - "Some Nights"
Jonny HP The Glorious Sons - "My Poor Heart"
Maroon 5 - "Wake Up Call"
I didn't read the requirements first. That Glorious Sons song up there has a bit of extra special meaning for me today. I was at a job today looking at water heaters. It was a camp called Camp Ooch. Look it up. Camp for children with cancer. My poor heart
Riiiick Technatronic - "Move This"
Mike D Bring Me The Horizon - "Sugar Honey Ice and Tea"
So hear me out. I could list some pop song by J Biebs or Adele, but literally everyone would be like "yeah I can see that" So this Emo rock shit is what I would interpret as my guilty pleasure. It's something I wouldn't put on the song of the week but I listen to more than occasionally
Rob Rage Against The Machine - "People Of The Sun"
Mr. T Little Feat - "Time Loves A Hero"
G-Man Stone Sour - "30/30 150"
Metal was my first love. Slipknot came into my life early in that affair and of course when I heard about Stone Sour, I had to check them out. This one takes me right back to the Summer of 2006. Lots of great songs on this album
Doug Whitney Houston - "I'm Every Woman" (Club Mix)
Dano Mastodon - "Oblivion"
If I could pick the album, I would....
Well after a 3 week vacation for the boys at Song Of The Day Friday we are back and ready to roll! Since we've missed some prime musical opportunities over the Holiday some of the lads are picking 3 songs this week! Rob, get us goin!
Rob Collective Soul - "Breathe"
Death Cab For Cutie - "Northern Lights"
Amos The Transparent - "Coming Home"
Mr. T Max Webster - "Diamonds Diamonds"
G-Man A Perfect Circle - "So Long And Thanks For All The Fish"
A new album from APC has fans and casual listeners divided. The title of this song is an allusion to the Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy, which is what initially got me intrigued
Filter - "Where Do We Go From Here"
A Mild hit in the early to mid 2000's but I love it. This is what Song Of The Day is all about. Business like this.
Wolfpack - Wish
Picked up these guys' LP Lycanthrope Punk while I was in New Zealand, though I don't think they are Kiwis. I couldn't find much info on these guys. This is from 1998 and it just kicks it.
Doug Whitney Houston - "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"
Dano Mandolin Orange - "Boots Of Spanish Leather"
The Tea Party - "Black River"
Lana Del Rey - "Hope Is A Dangerous Thing"
Jonny HP Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels - "Jenny Take A Ride (CC Rider)
