From Autumn To Ashes - "Take Her To The Music Store"
In late Winter/Early Spring of 2007 I made the move to Toronto. Uprooted my life and moved in with a close friend of mine Jonny HP. We were both at a significant crossroad in our lives. We were glad to have someone to keep company with. Have a few drinks at the end of the day. Most of the time those nights were filled with music. Me sharing songs with him. Him sharing songs with me. I'm sure we did so much more during those days, but it's the nights of listening to music and talking until midnight that stick with me the most. Those songs always bring back memories from those years. This is one of those songs.
Man, when this song was big it was everywhere. I'm pretty sure it was track 5 or 6 on one of my very first Mixed Tapes that I would make. "The Best Of The 90's". A tape I made in 1997, before the 90s were even sorted out. I saw the music video the other day, on some channel that still plays videos and it just captivated me again. Like hearing the song and seeing the video for the first time. It's when those feelings and emotions get prodded is one of the reasons why we enjoy music in the first place
It's October 28th! Which means it's the last Song Of The Day before Halloween. So some of our members, have decided to pick spooky scary tunes....others, well, I guess we'll find out!!

I'd like to see Metallica do a true Halloween song. Their lead guitarist Kirk Hammett is known for his obsession with classic horror movies and comics. Seems only fitting. He released his first solo EP this year and while there are no lyrics to speak of, a few of the tracks have that chilling feel.
Gotta love bands that start with G! Gotta love metal bands that start with G! I feel like Gojira have been on my radar for a while, but I only gave them an actual listen just recently. Really like what I've heard from them. Concise and melodic, yet brutal and at times unforgiving. "Flying Whales" was where I was recommended to start, so i'll pass it on to you! Happy New Year!

Some of the guys are picking their favourite song from 2020, others are letting the dawn of a new year inspire their track, others are just giving 2020 a big ol' middle finger through song! One of the best songs I heard this year and no it's not a 2020 track. This one might be a surprise to some of you. Yes on the surface it doesn't immediately identify as a G-Man pick. The hair metal aesthetic of the band and even the band's name sounds like it should be printed in the bright oranges, pinks and yellows of early 90's cheese. Ordinarily, I probably wouldn't have given it a second listen, but with it being 2020 and all it's lockdown malaise...i actually found myself intrigued by this track. It's hair metaly but it isn't. It's New Agey but it isn't. It's glam but it isn't. What it is is catchy, different and uplifting. If it was released any other time but the early Nineties, we probably would have heard more from these guys

G-Man The Distillers - "I Am A Revenant"
As a punk fan I found myself going through ebbs and flows of the certain style of punk i'd be drawn towards. More often than not, it's that raw but not basement-produced, aggressive but not incomprehensible, and lightning quick but not under 2 minutes long kind of punk that produced a much required itch to be scratched. "I Am A Revenant" by The Distillers checks all those boxes in a way my words cannot elucidate.
