Times Long Past

Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at Song Of The Day Fridays! Thank you as always for checking us out and here's to a great New Year!

Mr. Fros-T

Albert King - "Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin'"

Gaudy Xmas Decoration-Man

Hawskley Workman - "The Coldest Night Of The Year"

As the whole Province prepares to baton down the hatches, my mind wanders to this old favourite track. Xmas can be a happy, festive time, but also a quiet, pensive time. An opportunity to reflect on your own. Let your mind travel, to past, present and years yet to come

Doug The Halls

Michael Buble - "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas"

Dano Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Bad Religion - "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing"

Always and Forever

Jonny Holiday Party

Bing Crosby - "I'll Be Home For Christmas"

Mike December

Jon Kull - "Auld Lang Syne"

From the best Christmas Movie, Krampus.

Alessia Cara - "Make It To Christmas"

Jingle Bells

Thumpasaurus - "You Are So Pretty" (Live At The Echo)

Despite it being a very Merry Christmas, i'm going with a band I just discovered. It's a band with music we need more from. It'll make you have a very very good Christmas. Check them out and feel the good vibes we all need!

Ego Forum

Mr. T

John Mellencamp - "Under The Boardwalk"

G-Man

Hawksley Workman - "Safe & Sound"

When people talk about music I listen. Recently had a conversation with a few of my friends who happen to be big Hawksley Workman fans. He was quite active during the pandemic with various releases and virtual concerts. So, as I normally do with artists i'm not fully versed in, I asked what some of their favourite songs were by Mr. Workman. "Safe & Sound" was one of the answers that was shared amongst the members in the conversation.

Doug

Sam Smith - "How Will I Know"

Dano

Stick Figure - "Once In A Lifetime"

Jonny HP

Murder By Death - "Comin Home"

Mike D

The Royal Volts - "Head Down"

J.B

Robert Church & The Holy Community - "1988"

A band that does the West Coast dream pop vibe very well. Easy vibes to cruise to your local course or for sipping a mai thai at your upper scale tennis court. Happy Friday!

In the Shadow of a Neon Cross

Rob

Everclear - "Local God"

Mr. T

George Harrison - "Got My Mind Set On You"

Note From G-Man: "My favourite video as a youngster"

G-Man

I Mother Earth - "When Did You Get Back From Mars?"

Been on a mid-90's Canadian alt-rock kick lately. OLP, Moist, Treblecharger, The Hip, Odds, The Watchmen, Holly McNarland. It goes on. You can include I Mother Earth in there but many folks forget about the album after Scenery & Fish when Edwin left the group. They drafted a new singer Brian Byrne who had a unique voice. I respected that, they could've just hired an Edwin clone and probably picked up where they left off. This track is off the great Blue Green Orange.

Doug

Weezer - "Take On Me"

Weezer - 'Sweet Dreams"

Dano

The Floozies - "Stuntin'"

Jonny HP

Hawksley Workman - "Winter Bird"

Special Guest Pick(s)!

Riiiiiick

Matisyahu - "King Without A Crown" (live from Stubb's)

Azealia Banks - "212"

Christmas Is Creepin' In...

Rob

Matthew Good Band - "Strange Days"

Mr. Tanenbaum

Bruce Springsteen - "Merry Christmas Baby"

J. Giels Band - "Whammer Jammer"

Garland-Man

Hawksley Workman - "The Coldest Night Of The Year"

This one walks the fine line of being a Christmas song, it was included on Hawksley Workman's Christmas themed album Full Moon Eleven back in 2011. Though it's a cover of a Bruce Cockburn song which wasn't intended to be used for the holidays. It fits perfectly this time of yea though, not really happy nor sad. More introspective and isolated. Deep in self reflection among the happy masses.

Doug

Ben Folds Five - "Brick"

One of my favourite Xmas songs ;)

Dano

Estas Tonne & Reka Fodor - "Timeless Burn Out"

Jonny HP

Jimmy Eat World - "If You Don't, Don't"
