The Tragically Hip - "Ahead By A Century"

Kicking it to probably my favourite Canadian band!

GTA-Man

Great Big Sea - "Mari Mac"

Great Big Sea are one of Eastern Canada's best known acts. Putting their unique Maritime spin on all sorts of songs, from British Heavy Metal tunes to this Ol' Scottish folk song! Happy Canada Day all!!

Broken Open

 Mr. T

Lutan Fyah - "Game Is Over"

G-Man

The New Pornographers - "Whiteout Conditions"

I feel like even i've been sleeping on these guys and I own some of their albums. They never cease to amaze me with their "so-simple-why-didn't-I-think-of-it?" songwriting that just has this long lasting indelible quality. Basically I recommend everything and anything these guys do. Should be a truly proper Canadian Musical export.

Shaggy - "That's Life"

G-Man

Judee Sill - "Jesus Was A Cross Maker"

Going back a little further than my usual deep dives into the 90's and 2000's. Here's a great, lesser know artist from the 70's.

Doug

KRS-One - "Represent The Real Hip-Hop" feat. Das EFX

Dano

Thylacine - "Piany Pianino"

Jonny HP

Joe Cocker - "With A Little Help From My Friends"

Sloan - "The Other Man"

Not sure if you've ever been the "Other Man/Woman"....but this song should strike a chord. Interesting backstory: Sloan's own Chris Murphy penned this. According to insiders, it's about his apparent secret relationship with Leslie Feist. Feist has never come forward about any love triangle, but I do believe it's pretty clear some heavy shennanigans were going down backstage. Tumultuous times....but damn, thanks for the great track

Mamet & Pinter

Mr. T

Three Dog Night - "Never Been To Spain"

G-Man

Method Man - "Judgement Day"

This one came on during my commute this morning and I definitely cranked the volume. I'm not the biggest hip-hop fan, but when this came out, 1999 I think? I was obsessed. Back then I couldn't just play it automatically from my phone, I had to wait for Much Music to play the video, which it rarely did. Or seek out someone who owned the CD, befriend them briefly, borrow said CD, tape the song, return said CD and allow friendship to run it's course throughout the remainder of high school..... I can't seem to remember who that was...

Doug

Method Man - "What's Happenin'" feat Busta Rhymes

Note from G-Man: "Method Man too?"

Dano

Brad Paisley - "Kentucky Jelly"

Jonny HP

TBD

Mike D

Kate Bush - "Running Up That Hill"

J.B.

The Rapture - "Echoes"

After a long hiatus on this pretty small time band, I recently discovered about a 10 year gap of albums. Definitely all good quantity and quality wise.

The Rapture - "Out Of The Races and Onto The Tracks"

Check this one out too!

Kill Half The Night

 Mr. T

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - "Brave Strangers"

G-Man

The Offspring - "Spare Me The Details"

Continuing with my scouring of deep tracks from big time 90's/2000's bands. This one comes from The Offspring's 2003 album Splinter. Which I think was originally going to be titled Chinese Democrazy: You Snooze You Lose. Love it

Doug

Sam Cooke - "A Change Is Gonna Come"

Dano

Nym - "Shortlife"

Jonny HP

Murder By Death - "I Came Around"

Mike D

Post Malone - "Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers Theme"

Tony K - "3s"

J.B.

Unwritten Law - "She Says"

Blitzkrieg Dolls

Mr. T

The Dream Academy - "Life In A Northern Town"

G-Man

Collective Soul - "Him"

Was there any other alternative band from their era that had better riffs than Collective Soul? Admittedly I only really knew the hits from these guys. Songs that had radio play and music videos. I figured they must have some noteworthy deep tracks, and after a little a research I discovered "She Said", "Collection Of Goods" and this one which happens to be my favourite. From their 2004 album Youth.

Doug

LL Cool J - "Going Back To Cali"

Pick made from a Beach in California

Dano

Hugo Kant - "Clouds" feat. Astrid Engberg

Jonny HP

Neon Dreams - "Sick Of Feeling Useless"

Mike D

Metric - "Doomscroller"

J.B.

Electric Callboy - "We Got The Moves"

Coat Of Legs

Mr. T

Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers - "One Bright Day"

G-Man

He Is Legend - "The Seduction"

Except maybe Dano, I might be the only Song Of The Day member who truly appreciates the "Screamo" genre, that reached it's apex in the mid to late 2000's. I made a Mixed CD around that time off all my faves and I still think about and listen to those songs all the time. This one was I think maybe the last track on that burnt beauty, which is a slot almost as important as track 1.

Doug

The Beatnuts - "Se Acabo" feat. Method Man

Dano

INXS - "Guns In The Sky"

INXS - "Devil Inside"

Since "Guns In The Sky" always feels just like an intro, I figured it needed a follower

Jonny HP

Midnight Oil - "Beds Are Burning"

Mike D

thenewno2 - "Crazy Tuesday"

J.B.

Peach Pit - "Up Granville"

Hailing from Vancouver, Peach Pit have a genuine West Coast sound. Self categorized as "Chewed Bubblegum Pop"...and i'm still trying to figure that out. Typically Indie Bands seldom self identify as "pop". I definitely only hear a unique sound I think you'll appreciate. Have a good May 2-4!

Special Guest Pick!

Kyla

Papa Roach - "No Apologies"
