Catch 44

Mr. T

Willie Nelson - "On The Road Again"

G-Man

Janet Jackson - "Together Again"

This song has seen something of a resurgence lately. not sure why. In my youth I always assumed this was about a couple that broke up. Now hearing it again with more grey in my beard, it seems to be about the loss or death of a loved one. Maybe a child? Hits you differently once you become a parent

Doug

Billy Joel - "Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)"

Dano

Missy Elliott - "Work It"

Jonny HP

Korn - "My Gift To You"

Mike D

Down With Webster - "One In A Million"

J.B.

Stardust - "The Music Sounds Better With You"

Coat Of Legs

Mr. T

Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers - "One Bright Day"

G-Man

He Is Legend - "The Seduction"

Except maybe Dano, I might be the only Song Of The Day member who truly appreciates the "Screamo" genre, that reached it's apex in the mid to late 2000's. I made a Mixed CD around that time off all my faves and I still think about and listen to those songs all the time. This one was I think maybe the last track on that burnt beauty, which is a slot almost as important as track 1.

Doug

The Beatnuts - "Se Acabo" feat. Method Man

Dano

INXS - "Guns In The Sky"

INXS - "Devil Inside"

Since "Guns In The Sky" always feels just like an intro, I figured it needed a follower

Jonny HP

Midnight Oil - "Beds Are Burning"

Mike D

thenewno2 - "Crazy Tuesday"

J.B.

Peach Pit - "Up Granville"

Hailing from Vancouver, Peach Pit have a genuine West Coast sound. Self categorized as "Chewed Bubblegum Pop"...and i'm still trying to figure that out. Typically Indie Bands seldom self identify as "pop". I definitely only hear a unique sound I think you'll appreciate. Have a good May 2-4!

Special Guest Pick!

Kyla

Papa Roach - "No Apologies"

Cellar Door

Rob

Our Lady Peace - "Not Enough"

Mr. T

Geordie Kieffer - "Red Line"

G-Man

Skunk Anansie - "Weak"

I feel like back 1996 I made a note to my self to check out some songs by this band, as they seemed like one that deserved a deep dive and the type of band that i'd enjoy. Well 25 years later and I finally got around to following through on that and 15 year old me was right

Doug

Billy Joel - "She's Always A Woman"

Both of these songs have been stuck in my head all week, so I feel I must submit them together

Jim Croce - "Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels)"

Dano

The Trishas - "Little Sweet Cigars"

Jonny HP

Beach Boys - "Good Vibrations"

Mike D

Assuming We Survive - "Open Water"

J.B.

Coolio - "Fantastic Voyage"

Nothing makes you feel more nostalgic, if you were lucky enough to be around during the golden age of 90's Hip Hop and if  you weren't, it's still a good all around track.  I put this sweet jam on and it really picked my sorry ass up off the floor. Happy Friday feels, folks!

Bright White Eternal

Rob

Beck - "Where It's At"

Mr. T

Len - "Cryptik Souls Crew"

G-Man

Black Box Recorder - "The Facts of Life"

The decade from 2000-2009 gets overlooked all the time when it comes to music. One of these days i'm going to roll up my sleeves and dust off all the tunes to make some sort of cohesive Top 100 list. The best part of an exercise like that is re-discovering absolute GEMS like this one. That particular decade has hundreds of them

Doug

The Watchmen - "Incarnate"

Dano

The Decemberists - "Calamity Song"

Jonny HP

Billy Joel - "We Didn't Start The Fire"

This song has been on repeat in my head since Tuesday, so it has to be my SOTDF

Mike D

We The Kings - "Spin"

J.B.

Silverchair - "Straight Lines"

Remember this 'comeback' tune from 2007? No? Yeah, I don't think you're alone. Aside from the rather pirate like appearance of front man Daniel Johns in the video. It was a huge switch from the quintessential sound we all grew up with in the mid/late 90's. It's definitely good. But, nevertheless, this definitely has a coming of age progression to it and in fact this track pays homage to the multitude of struggles Johns had to deal with over the years. Seriously, there's a lot. I thought the biggest was his bust up to Natalie Imbruglia but i'm definitely wrong. Take a listen and enjoy

Clinging To The Last Rung

Rob

Moist - "Leave It Alone"

Mr. T

Queen - "It's Late"

G-Man

The Mutton Birds - "Dominion Road"

This is a true song of the day! Woke up with this one in my head! A New Zealand band that I heard when I was driving around the south island last Winter!

Doug

Dethklok - "Awaken"

I am not typically a fan of metal, but over the holidays I started watching Metalocalypse. It's hilarious and the music is great. If you like metal already I highly recommend it

Dano

Franz Ferdinand - "Ulysses"

Jonny HP

Billy Joel - "Only The Good Die Young"

Mike D

TBD

The Swells Of Avalon

Rob

Coldplay - "Clocks"

Mr. T

Billy Joel - "An Innocent Man"

G-Man

Ben Lee - "Cigarettes Will Kill You"

Never actually seen this video before. Takes a bit of a turn there. Great song from the late 90's early 00's that never really hit it big over here. Listen to this one a few times yea?

Doug

The Tragically Hip - "Butts Wigglin'"

Dano

The Knife - "Girl's Night Out"

The Knife - "Silent Shout"

Jonny HP

The Offspring - "Original Prankster"

Riiiick

Tracy Chapman - "Give Me One Reason"

Mike D

CHVRCHES - "Death Stranding"

The Trews - "Highway Of Heroes"

The Long Weekend Begins With A Shortcoming...

Rob

Billy Ocean - "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car"

Mr. T

KC & The Sunshine Band - "Give It Up!"

G-Man

Billy Joel - "The Downeaster Alexa"

Billy Joel has always been a old favourite fallback of mine. When I have kids, especially a son, I will use the words of Mr. Joel to teach him some serious life lessons. It's one thing I admire about Joel is his lyrics are always interesting and never lazy, often changing the words of the chorus each time through. This song is a lesser known track, but it showcases his talents wonderfully. It's a lament about the plight of the Long Island Fishermen, an industry close to Joel's heart, but one that has faded from relevance

Doug

Nas - "Adam & Eve"

Dano

Robert Plant - "Shine It All Around"

Jonny HP

Rise Against - "3 Day Weekend"

Cold Hard Beginnings

Rob

Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Can't Stop"

Mr. T

Billy Joel - "Rosalinda's Eyes"

G-Man

Billy Talent - "Surrender"

Whoa...Billy and Billy. I'm not the biggest Billy Talent fan, but this song is great. Love the line "She wonders why i'm always in a good mood" Think about it.

Doug

The Specials - "Ghost Town"

Dano

The Talking Heads - "Girlfriend Is Better"

Jonny HP

Lana Del Rey - "Gods & Monsters"

Travis - "Something Anything"
