Twist Mother Tongue

Some of our members are picking songs honouring the Canada Day weekend! Hope everyone has a happy and safe long weekend! Mr. T...what you got?

 Mr. Toque

Bryan Adams - "Shine A Light"

Canada Day Saturday!!! What WHAT!!

G-Man

Matthew Ryan - "Guilty"

This song was always around me, but never directly in my crosshairs. Until recently. It's imperfections are what used to keep this song on the outskirts, but now, they're what make the song great. Genuine heart and soul.

Doug

John Lee Hooker - "I Hated The Day I Was Born"

Daneaux

Half Moon Run - "Hotel In Memphis"

Supertramp much?

Jonny Hockey Practice

The Arkells - "You Can Get It feat. K. Flay"

Mike D

David Bowie - "Ziggy Stardust"

In honour of Ziggy de Launay

J.B.

Lord Huron - "I Lied feat. Allison Ponthier"

This one deserves your headphones, kind of a trip

The Tragically Hip - "Ahead By A Century"

Kicking it to probably my favourite Canadian band!

Great Big Sea - "Mari Mac"

Great Big Sea are one of Eastern Canada's best known acts. Putting their unique Maritime spin on all sorts of songs, from British Heavy Metal tunes to this Ol' Scottish folk song! Happy Canada Day all!!

Doug MacKenzie

The Tragically Hip - "New Orleans Is Sinking" (Live)

Dano

TBD

Jonny Hockey Practice

Pearl Jam - "Nothingman"

In Every Corner, A Beast. At Every Crossroad, A Snare

Rob

Queen - "You're My Best Friend"

In Honour Of Sebastian.

Mr. T

Elle King - "The Weight"

G-Man

Scissor Sisters - "I Don't Feel Like Dancing"

This is another song that harkens back to that Summer of 2006. Don't know why i'm being transported there by music lately....maybe time will tell

Doug

The Tragically Hip - "Ocean Next"

I Feel like The Hip are my go to choice for Canada Day Weekend and this one has been stuck in my head

Cymande - "Brothers On The Slide"

Jonny HP

Riiiick

Li'l Dicky - "Professional Rapper" feat. Snoop Dogg

The Long Weekend Begins With A Shortcoming...

Rob

Billy Ocean - "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car"

Mr. T

KC & The Sunshine Band - "Give It Up!"

G-Man

Billy Joel - "The Downeaster Alexa"

Billy Joel has always been a old favourite fallback of mine. When I have kids, especially a son, I will use the words of Mr. Joel to teach him some serious life lessons. It's one thing I admire about Joel is his lyrics are always interesting and never lazy, often changing the words of the chorus each time through. This song is a lesser known track, but it showcases his talents wonderfully. It's a lament about the plight of the Long Island Fishermen, an industry close to Joel's heart, but one that has faded from relevance

Doug

Nas - "Adam & Eve"

Dano

Robert Plant - "Shine It All Around"

Jonny HP

Rise Against - "3 Day Weekend"

Great Canadian Songs For Canada's 150!

Robertson Screwdriver

Rascalz - "Northern Touch" (feat. Choclair, Checkmate, Thrust & Kardinal Offishal)

Mr. Trudeau

The Tragically Hip - "Ahead By A Century"

Governor General Man

Philosopher Kings - "Charms"

These guys had a solid run during the 90's, though they never broke into the US market. We'll happily call them our own here in Canada. A couple members went on to form Prozzak, but "Charms" is their shining jewel. Great baby making music. Something else Canadians are good at

Nickelback - "If Everyone Cared"

I could rant on and on about how Nickelback don't deserve the hate they deserve but when it gets right down to it I might as well just let this song speak for itself.

Doug Mackenzie

Michael Buble - "Feeling Good"

Dan O'Canada

Death From Above 1979 - "Sexy Results"

Rush - "Analog Kid" (Live)

Jonny Hockey Practice

The Arcade Fire - "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)"
