Jellyknuckle

 Mr. T

David and David - "Welcome To Boomtown"

G-Man

The Cardigans - "Erase/Rewind"

Theses guys came on the radio randomly while I was in Toronto over New Years, not this song, but not "Lovefool" either. Made me think of this banger of a track. Takes me immediately back to 2006, when I was introduced to a flood of great tunes new and old that I previously hadn't had the chance to experience.

Doug

Cake - "Sheep Go To Heaven"

Dano

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Maps"

Jonny HP

Depeche Mode - "Wrong"

Mike D

Finger Eleven - "Living In A Dream"

J.B.

Where All The Rivers Run Dry

Mr. T

Buju Banton - "Untold Stories"

Glory Hallelujah-Man

The Pogues - "Fairytale Of New York"

Bittersweet pick right here. It's officially December so I can allow myself to get into the festive mood with some Xmas music, but sad news yesterday as legendary Pogues frontman Shane McGowan passes away at 65. Shocked he was only 65. Shocked he lived that long. RIP. Thanks for the beautiful art

Doug

Cake - "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps"

Bonjour from Paris!!

Dano

The Pogues - "Turkish Song Of The Damned"

For Shane McGowan

Jonny HP

Bear's Den - "Agape"

Mike D

Jacob Collier - "Witness Me" feat. Shawn Mendes, Stormzy & Kirk Franklin

Scott Helman - "Chuck Taylors"

Ultra Scarlet

 Mr. T

Tim Cappello - "I Still Believe"

G-Man

Mr. Bungle - "Retrovertigo"

The stillness and calmness of this track hit me like a ton of bricks the other day. From a band that is typically associated with chaos and mercurial energy. Mike Patton and crew put their musical prowess and talent on full display right here.

Doug

Cake - "Love You Madly"

Dano

U2 - "Bad"

Jonny HP

Flaw - "Whole"

Mike D

RAYE - "Escapism"

J.B.

Sigur Ros - "Glosoli"

What Ever Happened To....?

Happy Easter! and since it's the long weekend, we here at Song Of The Day thought we'd bring you one of our much revered theme weeks! This week's theme is "What Ever Happened To?" And since it was suggested by our very own Mr. T....he get's to go first!

Mr. T

Nelly Furtado - "I'm Like A Bird"

Mr. T: "What Happened To Her?"

G-Man: "I Think she is basically being a mom now"

Mr. T: "That's a full time gig! I wouldn't know but Blondie has to take care of me and apparently that's not easy"

G-Man: "Haha, I remember what happened when you tried to dress yourself that one time..."

Mr. T: "We all have skills in life...but not all the skills..."

G-Man

Live - "Turn My Head"

I know these guys signed a huge record contract after or just before Throwing Copper. That can go one of two ways for a band, a successful career with longevity or fading into obscurity. However, my theory is that their name also did them in, especially in the internet era. Searching for Live or Live Band or Live Music or Live songs....you'd need to be very specific with your searches and let's face, most internet users just ain't it

Doug

Nina Simone - "Feeling Good"

What happened, Miss Simone?

Dano

Cake - "Long Line Of Cars"

Jonny HP

Mondo Cozmo - "Tonight Tonight"

Mike D

3Oh!3 - "Don't Trust Me"

J.B.

t.A.T.u - "All The Things She Said"

Whatever happened to Tatu? This song (and video) caused a pretty massive stir in the early 2000s....

Normalize

Rob

Incubus - "Make Yourself"

Mr. T

Mt. Joy - "Astrovan"

G-Man

Slipknot - "Everything Ends"

Every now and then I need to blast a song that matches my ire and violent urges. These days it seems more the norm than not, and i'm noticing that other people seemingly are on the same wavelength. Someday, like everything else, this pandemic will end, and I will post a song with tranquil and serene vibes as we celebrate a return to normalcy. Today is not that day however. Slipknot. Iowa. Track 5. Engage

Doug

Cake - "Satan Is My Motor"

Dano

Larkin Poe - "Blunt"

Jonny HP

Owl City - "This Isn't The End"

Mike D

A Day To Remember - "Paranoia"

J.B.

The Worst - "Man"

This is one hell of an obscure band with only one notable track that I could find. Pretty grim tune, but it's catchy as hell

Stings & Pretty Things

Rob

Against Me! - "Stop!"

Mr. T

TBD

G-Man

Big Business - "Let The Grind"

The album stood out. It was on display above the milk crates full of vinyl in the heavy metal section. The cover art intriguing, a large bejewelled owl, hand drawn or so it seemed. Reminded of "Prey" by Planes Mistaken For Stars. Another album I purchased solely because of the album art. Brought it home and let it spin. I thought to myself...how did I let it all slip by me?

Doug

Cake - "Mahna, Mahna"

Dano

Big Sugar - "Leadbelly (Dub)"

Jonny HP

The Allman Brothers Band - "Ramblin' Man"

Of Rabbits and Thorny Crowns

It's Easter Weekend and us hotheads here at Song Of The Day thought we'd do a week of picks inspired by such. Let's see how our newcomers fared...

Resurrection Rob

Matthew Good Band - "While We Were Hunting Rabbits"

Easter T

Dan Fogelberg - "Leader Of The Band"

Neil Young & Stephen Stills - "Long May You Run"

egG-Man

The National - "Pink Rabbits"

Thought about picking Moist - "Resurrection" which would have been a more clever pick yet obvious song, so I went with a more obvious title and a more obscure song.

Egg

U2 - "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"

Cake - "Satan Is My Motor"

First Dano Of Spring

Billie Ellish - "Bury A Friend"

Jonny Hop Pants

Depeche Mode - "Personal Jesus"

Soup Strainers and Lip Sweaters

This week here at Song Of The Day Fridays the lads are making picks as an ode to the moustache, in honour of Movember! They were free to interpret the theme as they will! Let's see what they got...

Rob

Jimi Hendrix - "All Along The Watchtower"

Mr. T

The Spinners - "The Rubberband Man"

G-Man

Motorhead - "Devil I Know"

Lemmy Kilmister is famous for many things. Being a singing bass player, front man of the loudest band of all time, ravenous whiskey drinker, legendary groupie-banger, monster moles on his famous and one of rock and roll's most famous handlebar moustaches.

Doug

Cake - "Mustache Man (Wasted)"

Dano

Eagles Of Death Metal - "I Only Want You"

Eagles Of Death Metal - "Chase The Devil"

Jonny HP

Mr. T

Blood, Sweat & Tears - "Go Down Gamblin'"

G-Man

The Trews - "So She's Leaving"

It's break up season! And one of my favourite break up songs is "So She's Leaving" by Canada's Trews. The sounds of orange

Grady - "Ride Like Hell"

Assume Immortal Position

Rob

REM - "Bang & Blame"

Mr. T

Bob Seger - "We've Got Tonight"

I have a soft spot for these British lads. Unique sound and uncompromising musical styles. This song is fantastic, pop-rock delight.

Doug

Carly Pearce - Every Little Thing

Dano

Jonny HP

"Show Me The Way To Go Home" from Jaws

Same Title, Different Artist...No Covers!

There are so many songs out there by so many artists that there is bound to be some cross-over. We here at Song Of The Day Fridays decided to acknowledge this by picking two songs each with the same name, just done by different artists. And before you ask, No covers don't count. Some members really shone here while others seem to be struggling...let's see what they got for us....Rob?

Rob

Edwin - "Alive"

Pearl Jam - "Alive"

Mr. T

David Bowie - "Changes"

Tupac - "Changes"

G-Man

Avail - "High Lonesome"

I will always let people introduce me to new music and if that means letting them do a huge dump of songs on my hard drive, so be it. What? Nothing wrong with that. That's how I discovered Avail, though there isn't much info about them online. Their song "High Lonesome" has made it on many of my punk mixes

The Gaslight Anthem - "High Lonesome"

The previous song helped me discover The Gaslight Anthem. I heard that they would be a band that I would dig but never heard a song by them. One day while perusing the CDs at Sunrise Records I saw their album The '59 Sound and checked it out. I saw a track on the back called "High Lonesome" and wondered if it was a cover. That curiousity and the recommendation was enough for me to purchase it and I must say I was a clever man that day. Perhaps my favourite driving CD ever...oh and it wasn't a cover. Just a great song by a great band

Doug

Dolly Parton - "Jolene"

Cake - "Jolene"

Dano

Metallica - "Mama Said"

Note from G-Man: Decent

Puscifer - "Momma Sed"

Jonny HP

TBD

Note from G-Man: Where you at Jonny?

June Tunes for the 23rd!!!

Rob

Our Lady Peace - "Stealing Babies"

Mr. T

Earth, Wind & Fire - "Gotta Get You Into My Life"

G-Man

The Aggrolites - "Countryman Fiddle"

Gotta thank Dano for this pick. He introduced me to these guys and this is one of my favourite tracks off their self-titled album. Dirty Reggae, is what they call this and I agree. Love it!

Doug

Cake - "Sheep Go To Heaven"

Dano

The Mars Volta - "Inertiatic ESP"

Jonny HP
