Water, Wood and Hill

Rob

Dave Matthews Band - "The Best Of What's Around"

Mr. T

Wayne Wonder and Mr G - "Tuff Times"

G-Man

Cigarettes After Sex - "Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby"

Some songs just hit you differently after becoming a father.

Doug

AC/DC - "You Shook Me All Night Long"

Dano

Larkin Poe - "Sometimes"

Larkin Poe - "Blunt"

I Always seem to listen to these two back to back. They just fit

Jonny HP

TBD

Mike D

The Weeknd - "Gasoline"

J.B.

Goodie Mob - "Thought Process"

In the early, mid and late 90's one could make the argument that some of the best hip hop conglomerations could be found there. One of these phenomenal colabs is Goodie Mob. Cee-Lo (early years for sure, before his more poppy tunes came in) and even more notably, Outkast. Love this rich era of hip hop experimentation and dark lyrics.

Agelast

 Rob

Fallout Boy - "Bang The Doldrums"

Eve 6 - "Nocturnal"

Mr. T

Led Zeppelin - "Baby Come On Home"

G-Man

Wilco - "California Stars"

I know it's the dead of Winter. And I mean DEAD. But I had to go with this one after I heard it on my morning commute this morning. One of my favourite Summer time chill songs. After the darkness comes the light. Warm sun on your face. Cool drink in your hand. Soon, right?

No Doubt - "Simple Kind Of Life"

This was going to be my pick before I heard the Wilco one this morning, but still thought I should give this one it's moment. Totally forgot about this track until I saw the video last night. Nothing's tougher for a band than trying to follow up a smash album. For No Doubt 1996's Tragic Kingdom made them (and singer Gwen Stefani) overnight sensations. It took them 4 years to come out with their next album Return Of Saturn. I always enjoyed it and thought it didn't get enough respect. I think this song gets forgotten, but it's a well written, well crafted alt-rock song. One of No Doubt's best.

Note From Rob: "Talk about a rod-stiffener"

Doug

Headstones - "Heart Of Darkness"

Dano

The Secret Sisters - "Mississippi"

The Secret Sisters - "He's Fine"

Jonny HP

Lana Del Rey - "Gods & Monsters"

Mike D

Loon Choir - "Full World"

J.B.

Le Tigre - "Deceptacon"

Electronic Dance Punk anyone? Le Tigre was a late 90s mindchild by the leftwing sociopolitical Kathleen Hanna (See Bikini Kill). I've heard this song covered by some pretty awesome front ladies over the years and even a high school garage band which was honestly epic. If you haven't heard it, it'll definitely help your Friday morning!

The Book; The Movie

Rob

Mos Def - "Body Rock" feat. Tash & Q-Tip

Mr. T

Sam Fender - "Getting Started"

G-Man

Jellyfish - "That Is Why"

The long list of great 90's songs that i'm discovering today continues!! Jellyfish seem to be one of those bands that were too early, or maybe too late. Were a little too left of centre of what people were heavily consuming at the time and didn't have a smash hit big enough to pull them through. However, thankfully their songs still live on and we can enjoy them again and again!

Doug

Rita MacNeil - "Working Man"

Dano

Alex Lifeson - "Strip and Go Naked"

Jonny HP

Tears For Fears - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"

Mike D

DES3ETT & Serena Ryder - "Killing The Pain"

J.B.

Oliver Tree - "Cowboy's Don't Cry"

New persona for Oliver Tree this time around. To me, this dude has a perfect formula with his tracks and also a fine tuned online presence.

Komorebi

Rob

TBD

Mr. T

The Manhattans - "Shining Star"

G-Man

Goldfinger - "Mable"

Pure, unadulterated 90's punk. With a dash of ska sprinkled on top. Mabel was an important name to me and some friends during my High School daze. So this song is the perfect time capsule of those younger selves.

Doug

Flight Of The Conchords - "Business Time"

Dano

Colm McGuinness - "Jenny Of Oldstones"

Jonny HP

The Fratellis - "Whistle For The Choir"

Mike D

Seven Lions - "Don't Leave" feat. Ellie Goulding

J.B.

Alpha - "Firefly (Receiver Mix)"

Well, I had a few great tracks lined up for today but this one spoke to me. For a long time I knew this one as Portishead "Music To Fuck To", and though Portishead has a ton of amazing tracks for, uh, extracurricular times, the track was actually one of those mislabeled during the Napster/Kazaa days of the early 2000s. The song still pleases all sorts of parts for your Friday and can set the tone for anyone's romantic or non-romantic evening. Maybe it's a happy F*ck Friday track?

Note from G-Man: I Thought it was Portishead too!!

Red Heaven

Happy New Year folks!!!

Rob

Eve 6 - "Nightmare"

Mr. T

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - "Walls"

G-Man

Gojira - "Flying Whales"

Gotta love bands that start with G! Gotta love metal bands that start with G! I feel like Gojira have been on my radar for a while, but I only gave them an actual listen just recently. Really like what I've heard from them. Concise and melodic, yet brutal and at times unforgiving. "Flying Whales" was where I was recommended to start, so i'll pass it on to you! Happy New Year!

Doug

Taylor Swift - "New Year's Day"

Notorious B.I.G - "Party & Bullshit"

Dano

TBD

Jonny HP

Dishwalla - "Counting Blue Cars"

Mike D

Semisonic - "Closing Time"

Twenty-One Pilots - "Stressed Out"

J.B.

Teddybears STHLM - "Yours To Keep"

Well, thought i'd dig deep for some non-rager fueled vibes for your New Years Eve since the world is still a little bit on fire. Have a great one and we'll see you next year!

G-Rinch Man

Trans Siberian Orchestra - "Christmas Canon Rock"

Laocoon

We're about a week away from Christmas, so some of our members have decided to get into the Holiday spirit early!! Enjoy the picks and stay healthy!!

Rob

Foo Fighters - "My Hero"

Mistletoe T

Patricia Vonne - "Santa's On A Rampage"

G in a Manger

Trans Siberian Orchestra - "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo"

It simply is not Christmas until I hear this one. Usually I put off listening to Xmas tunes until the Tree is put up and that typically doesn't happen until early-ish December after my daughter's birthday. Every year though it is definitely worth the wait. Sit back with a nice drink and enjoy it friends!!

Doug

ChoppaDior - "Chocolate Barbie"

Dano

Unleash The Archers - "Awakening"

Jonny Holiday Parade

Nat King Cole - "The Christmas Song"

Mike D Cane

Steve Ouimette - "We Three Kings"

Jingle Bells

The Raveonettes - "The Christmas Song"

I see what the other lads have started...one more week of the jingles and vibes. Hope you're all staying Wham! Christmas music free!!
